Salmon Returning to Cowlitz Hatchery in Record Numbers (KELA Radio, Centralia, WA)
(CHEHALIS, WA) -- Monday was a banner day at the Cowlitz
Salmon Hatchery in Lewis County, where a record number of Coho salmon
have already returned for the season. Tacoma Power reports from August
16 through November 17, employees handled more than 87,000 Coho adults,
topping the previous record of a little over 85,600 set in the 2002-2003
season. The Coho run is still going strong and the utility anticipates
the total for the 2014-2015 season will exceed 95,000 adult fish. The
season ends in March 2015.
