Special Weather Statement for Western Washington (National Weather Service, Seattle, WA)

A cool moist and unstable air mass will bring rain and snow showers to the western Washington lowlands today and tonight. Cool moist air streaming into western Washington from the northwest will bring rain and snow showers to the lowlands today and tonight. Daytime heating will destabilize the air mass for a chance of thunderstorms this afternoon.

In addition, the Puget Sound convergence zone will develop this morning and continue through tonight. That feature will produce heavier showers over the north Puget Sound region, especially north King county, Snohomish county, and Skagit county.

The snow level will range from 300 feet to 1000 feet across western Washington, and temperatures will fall below freezing in some spots early this morning and again tonight. Local snow accumulations of 1 or even 2 inches are likely, mainly in the convergence zone and near the Cascades in the east Puget Sound lowlands. However the relatively warm ground and daytime highs in the mid to upper 40s should prevent any significant accumulations.
